¿Is it possible to transform instrumental color through resonance? Almagre y Azul explores this speculation by combining two guitars with fixed electroacoustic sounds. It is in the nature of plucked strings to have a resonance that dies out in a relative short time. By manipulating the length and texture of the guitars’ resonance, I’ve attempted to alter this tendency and provide an alternative behavior that will project their sound beyond the limits of their physical and causal boundaries.
I composed Almagre y Azul on a commission from the Secretaría de Cultura del Estado de Michoacan for guitarists Carlos Avila and Alejandro Heredia, who premiered the piece in the 2012 Visiones Sonoras festival.
